As pest controllers we aee this often. But the general public only ever see the huge clouds of Queens ants emerging and then flying away. People get alarmed. No need at all. Basically you are seeing Queens and male ants have sex..... once they have had their wicked way..... they fly off to establish another colony. Thats if the birds don't get them. So the next time you see a whle load of flying ants doing this in your garden you can have a chuckle.
